Courses

Whatever your starting point, or previous qualifications, we have free courses to support you. With City Gateway, you can gain Level 2 qualifications as well as employability skills and work experience.

Our training courses are designed as pathways into an apprenticeship or employment.

12 week vocational training to achieve a level 2 Certificate in Certificate in IT User Skills

Training days/times

Monday to Wednesday from 9:30 – 15:30 (you may start at 11:30 if you have already achieved GCSE Maths & English grade C or above)

Entry Requirements

  • Aged 19-24
  • Have Maths and English GCSE grade A*-E or Entry level 3 qualification
  • Cannot be working more than 16 hours a week

What happens after the course?

  • You will progress to our IBM Traineeship / other CGT course
  • Or we will support you to apply to other suitable apprenticeships / entry level roles including:
    • IT Support Assistant in many different sectors: finance, Banking, Legal, Local authority, Charity, education, etc.
    • Junior IT Support Analyst
    • Junior IT Support Engineer

Training days/times

Monday to Wednesday from 9:30 – 15:30 (you may start at 11:30 if you have already achieved GCSE Maths & English grade C or above)

  • Have Maths and English GCSE grade A*-E or Entry level 3 qualification
  • Cannot be working more than 16 hours a week

What happens after the course?

  • You will progress to our IBM Traineeship / other CGT course
  • Or we will support you to apply to other suitable apprenticeships / entry level roles including:
    • Reception Assistant
    • Facilities Assistant
    • Administrative Support in many different sectors: Finance, Banking, Legal, Local authority, Charity, education etc.
  • Or we will support you to look for further training / education in other organisations

12 week employability programme consisting of 7 weeks training at City Gateway and 5 week work placement at IBM

Training days/times

Thursday (English) and Friday (Maths) 9:30 – 15:30 (you may start at 11:30 if you have already achieved GCSE Maths and English grade C or above)

Entry Requirements

  • Aged 19-24
  • Have Maths and English GCSE grade D or above (you will need to achieve this grade in an online test)
  • Cannot have more than 6 months of office work experience

What happens after the course?

  • Our Progression Team will provide support and guidance for you to apply for year- long apprenticeships with our partner employers
  • Or we will support you to apply to other suitable apprenticeships / entry level roles
  • Or we will support you to look for further training / education in other organisations

Our Progression Coaching Programme allows you to work with your own personal City Gateway Coach to support you into employment, apprenticeship or further education through regular one to one sessions, careers advice, support with applications, and coaching in soft skills.
 

Our Progression Coaching Team will provide support and guidance for you to apply for year-long apprenticeships with our partner employers, as well as other suitable apprenticeships, entry level roles or further training and education in other organisations.


A coach will automatically be assigned to anyone that joins a CGT training course.

Our Talent Match lead will provide support, guidance and exclusive, early opportunities for you to apply to apprenticeships, jobs and training opportunities.

We will support you to develop your leadership and social skills through a combination of youth-led events and trips

Entry Requirements

  • Aged 18-24
  • Not claiming Jobseekers Allowance
  • Not currently working or in training/education
  • Living in Tower Hamlets, Newham or Barking & Dagenham
